Cincy day 2

Tommy Haas. It's hard to believe he's 35 and still playing and winning matches.

Kevin Anderson. Tommy Hass beat him in straight sets in the first round.

One of the nicest one handed backhands there is.

Nothing great about this photo, it just made me laugh because he's headless.

Tommy Robredo.

Nothing special about this photo, I just liked it.

Thomaz Bellucci.

Andrea Petkovic celebrating a good point.

One of my favorite players, Dominika Cibulkova. She's small but fast and hits really hard.

Polona Hercog, her match vs Cibulkova was the battle of the flying ponytails.

Jamie Hampton.

Daniela Hantuchova.

Alize Cornet. She was very entertaining to watch, a lot of personality, always talking to and yelling or laughing at her coach.

Ana Ivanovic.

Sometimes there are things I don't notice watching them play, but are obvious when going through the photos. such as mouth wide open and grunting during every serve.

Tennis may be a non-contact sport, but at this level it's very physical.

Caroline Wozniacki.

Shuai Peng.

James Blake playing doubles with Steve Johnson.

Cincy day 1

We spent part of last week in Cincinnati watching the first few rounds of the Southern and Western Open Tennis tournament.

The top seeds have first round byes so we watched a lot of practice. This is one shot I saw hit in practice a lot that I've never mastered, the tweener.

Caroline Woznaicki hitting, she hits everything so hard she's always making interesting faces.

Mardy Fish serving. You can understand how he has such a good serve, he really coils his whole body and explodes into it.

The new way to take photos, with your Ipad, cameras keep getting smaller and smart phones and pads are getting bigger.

John Isner.

Martina Hingis. It was fun to see her play again. She had been retired 10 years but she has amazing hands playing doubles.

Martina Hingis discussing strategy with playing partner Daniela Hantuchova.

Maria Sharapova giving away samples of her new candy.

Took a break from tennis, found a new comfy chair to relax and took a few photos of the plants around the grounds.

Daniela Hantuchova.

Flavia Pannetta.

Sam Querrey.

Maria Kirilenko played a really good match vs Anna Tatishlivi and won in a 3rd set tiebreak.

It's really hard to get perfect tennis photos, the best ones have clean backgrounds instead of fans or ball kids and line judges, they have the ball in the frame, and you can see the player's eyes. It seems like I can get some but rarely all of these things.

The players are so athletic now and hit so hard that they are off the ground when they hit or during the follow thru.

Anna Tatishlivi.
When things get slow on court 10 everyone stands on the top row of the bleachers and watches court 9 instead.
