Cheat Mountain Salamander Train

We decided to get away for the weekend and do something different so we drove to West Virginia and took the train up into the mountains.

This wasn't in West Virgina but just outside our bedroom window 5 minutes before we left. There were four different families of Geese and these were the cutest.

Elkins Depot, Elkins WV. The weather didn't look too good before we left and we expected rain but the day turned out perfect.

Pre-boarding entertainment.

Racing along once we left town (actually we were only going maybe 15 miles per hour, I just set a really slow shutter speed to make it look faster).

Entering the tunnel under Cheat Mountain.

Typical view both going up the mountain and back down, change the trees and water and add or subtract a few guys fishing for trout and we had 5 hours of looking at this.

High Falls of the Cheat (not high as in the size, high up on the mountain, that's what they told us).

They weren't very high, but they were pretty wide.

About to get run over!!!!

View out the back of the train as we were going through Cheat Mountain tunnel. It's all built with 8x8 wood timbers.

On the drive later in the day, from Elkins to Hagerstown MD. The mustang is still pretty clean, probably because it got washed the night before when we drove though two intense thunderstorms on the way to WV.

The view from the top of one of the mountains in WV we drove over on the way to Hagerstown. It was a beautiful, twisty drive through the mountains.
