RTD 2025 (kind of)

Our RTD trip was a bit different this year. We started almost a week ahead and had a blast in VA, WV, KY, TN, NC and GA. It was during a huge storm that went from Cuba all the way north to New England. We had rain on and off several days. We didn't however get to Fontana until Friday afternoon and got to meet up with a bunch of friends, then we headed to Franklin to spend the night. Saturday morning started with rain so most of our group headed home while Matt and I headed to Fontana to at least do the group drive and photos. The only problem was Matt got a flat in the construction zone of Moonshiner and by the time we got his car sorted out we had missed everything. In spite of all of that we had a great time driving some really awesome mountain roads.

Lunch break in Mullens WV where one of our fav BBQ places is, Rebel Smoke House & Burgers.

Northern end of "the snake", route 421. If you ever drive the snake, be sure to stop in the middle in Shady Valley and get coney dogs, awesome.
A lot of the days looked like this, overcast and cool with on and off rain.

Cool, foggy, wet and with debris on the road. All good reasons to keep the speed down on this road, the widow maker.
A coal bear in Lynch, KY at the north end of the "Dragon Slayer". All the cool roads have nicknames, mostly dragon or reptile related.

The parking lot at Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary at the start of the "Devil's Triangle".

Northern GA in the six-gap area just before you head up Blood Mtn.
One of the trees outside Mountain Crossings store at the top of Blood Mtn.

The Lotus club was at Fontana the same time we were.

We ran across this absolutely beautiful Singer Porsche on one of our drives. There were also a ton of VW/Audi/BMW cars in the same area because they were having a big event in Helen GA, a very germanish town in north GA.

Road Trip 2025 - Biscayne Bay National Park

We only stopped here on the way home from Everglades and only for an hour. It looks like most of the fun stuff to do involves kayaks and it...
